East Tanfield is a small deserted medieval village in North Yorkshire abutted up to the southern perimeter of the Thornborough Henges. It was deserted by the 16th century.
Manor Farm is on the site of the medieval manor house and the elevation projection clearly shows the hollow way leading down to the manor with the various tofts and crofts lining the hollow way in a very typical medieval village format
The standard aerial shot illustrates how deceptive ground survey can be as there is no sign of the village in this format, it is only when the elevation projection is generated that the layout of the village becomes clearly apparent.
